Light in the form of transeverse waves passes through the
sample and exhibit angular rotation due to the presence of
optically active substance.this change in angle is measured
by the instrument polarimeter.source may be mercury or lead.

when plane polarised light passed through[calcite crystals]
optically active sample[which leavo and dextro form ]light
rotate plane polarised mirror image sructure with same angle
thus toward same site means 50%leavo and 50% dextro form .
