Answer / somy
midway.
72/2 = 36kms.....the distance midway
A to cover 36 takes 9hrs (9*4)
B in 9 hrs cover 36 also (2+2.5+....+6 = 36)
hence midway

Answer / rana
Distance covered by A in 9hours= 9*4=36kms
Distance covered by B in 9 hours=
(2.5+3+3.5+4+4.5+5+5.5+6)=36kms
so A,B meet in the midway i.e 72/2=36kms

After the first hour, they are
4+2=6 km closer to each other. After the second hour, they are
4+2.5=6.5 km closer to each other, and so on. The reduction of distance per hour is therefore an arithmetic progression:
6, 6.5, 7, ...
with initial value a=6 and common difference d=0.5.
The arithmetic series (adding these distances) can be expressed in terms of hours, h, as
S(h) = ah + dh(h-1)/2
= 6h + 0.5(h^2-h)/2
= 6h + (h^2-h)/4
and they meet when this sum equals 72:
6h + (h^2-h)/4 = 72
24h + h^2 - h = 288
h^2 + 23h - 288 = 0
(h - 9) (h + 32) = 0
We have no interest in a negative solution, so the positive one h=9 is the one we want. They meet after 9 hours.
That doesn't match either of the answers that are times, so let's check the distance from A, which at a steady 4 km/h is clearly 36km, half the total distance.
They meet midway (answer iv).

Of the total number of X tickets and Y tickets, what percentage was purchased? 1) The total number of X tickets and Y tickets, is 240. 2) Of the X tickets, exactly 60% were purchased, and of the Y tickets, exactly 80% were purchased. a) if statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient to answer the question. b) if statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient to answer the question. c) if BOTH statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are sufficient to answer the question asked, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient. d) if EACH statement ALONE is sufficient to answer the question asked. e) if statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient to answer the question asked, and additional data specific to the problem are needed.
