C if its a GUI testing , you will be testing alignment ,
Submit or login button etc... (with the help of functional
spc. doc)
If its a functional testing you need to check what will
happen when you enter correct ID & pwd and negative testing
also...

When there is no document available, adhoc testing based on
experience in the application's domain, will help a tester
to test the application.
For a login screen, we need to check both from UI &
Functional perspective, as mentioned by Jim.

how can we test an application to know the expiration period (i.e,below or equal to expiry-date it shud work and above it shud fail). [assume this s/w app'n validity period is 2months]
One very small question, If application/ website performing all the function perfectly like submission, deletion, editing etc, why do we require Data base testing saparately. Please understand before reply thanks !!
