Answer / biomaster
Gram positive bacteria resist decolonization and retain the
methyl violet appearing violet. Gram negative bacteria are
decolorized organic solvents and therefore take the
counterstain appearing red.

gram positive bacteria retain violet colour, have several
layers thick peptidoglycan, absence of periplasmic space, low
amount of lipids and lipoproteins, presence of techoic
acids, 2 rings of flagella in basal bodies, endotoxic in
nature, inhibition by basic dye is marked, high resistance to
drying.
gram negative bacteria passes crystal violet and appears red
due to counter staining by saffranine, have single layer
thin peptidoglycan, high amount of lipids and lipoproteins,
presence of periplasmic space, absence of techoic acids, 4
rings of flagella in basal bodies, exotoxic in nature,
inhibition by basic dye is much less marked, low resistance
to drying.
