Manageable Switch has lots of features like Vlan Creations, Port Security, Priorities traffics, IGMP Snooping(To prevent Multicast messages), Port Mirroring, Rate Limiting/Rate setting, Link aggregation.

But in Unmanageable these activities cannot possible. It just pass the traffic, Whatever it may be....

unmanaged switches can not create vlan and VTP Domain and
only one broadcast domain. unmanaged switches can not access
through telnet and has no ability to control the traffic and
can not configure and does not have com port to configure
router and switches and routers with the help of console port.

Managed Switches- Managed switches can create vlan and VTP
Domain and when we will create 10 vlan then then we can
create 10 broadcast domain. Managed switches can access
through telnet and has ability to control the traffic and
can configure and have com port to configure router and
switches and routers with the help of console port and it
can have layer 3 device functionally such as router same.

Normal Switch - we cannot configure normal switch that
means we cannot create VLAN in this Switch. with the help
of this switch we cannot create a separate broadcast domain
in the network
Manageable Switch - we can configure Manageable switch that
means we can create VLAN in this Switch. with the help of

A managed switch gives you the ability to log into the
network switch and monitor and configure each port on the
switch one by one. An unmanaged switch does not give you
this ability.A managed switch will be much more expensive
than an unmanaged switch of the same size.

Normal Switch- its plug and play device.its not use to broad cast network. this device are not configure. and no fecture in this use for switch.its use small network & home.

Managable Switch- 1st this switch are configure then we can use this switch. its very intelligence device compair with normal switch. its use network broadcasting. its a industrial use.

Hi Guys I am facing one problem while configuring PAP over Point to Point links. Configuration scenario is like this. ROUTER 1: (Hostname – R1) R1(config)#username R2 password CCNA2 R1(config)#interface serial 1/1 R1(config-if)ip address 10.0.0.1 255.0.0.0 R1(config-if)#lock rate 64000 R1(config-if)#encapsulation ppp R1(config-if)#ppp authentication pap R1(config-if)#ppp pap sent –username R1 password CCNA1 R1(config-if)#no shutdown ROUTER 2: (Hostname – R2) R2(config)#usename R1 password CCNA1 R2(config)#interface serial 1/1 R2(config-if)#ip address 10.0.0.2 255.0.0.0 R2(config-if)#encapsulation ppp R2(config-if)# ppp authentication pap R2(config-if)# ppp pap sent –username R2 password CCNA2 R2(config-if)#no shutdown Now problem is that, after configure the command “ppp authentication pap” the “Line protocol” status goes down on each router. But when I disable this command using “no ppp authentication pap”, the “Line Protocol” status goes up. What could be the problem, can anyone explain it plzzz….!!! Thanks in Advance…!! Shahin..
