Answer / jagat narayan giri
The literal meaning of both the terms are taken to be the
same. When the goods are kept in the warehouse to be
released to the shop for selling it is called as INVENTORY.
When inventory comes into the shop for selling to the
ultimate consumers it is known as stock. In other words,
goods when in warehouse/godown are called INVENTORY and on
the other hand goods when in the shop for sales are called
STOCK. To conclude, Inventory is the phenomenon between
warehouse/godown and shop/selling point. Stock is the
phenomenon between shop/selling point and the buyers
ultimate consumers.

Stock and inventory are used interchangeably which is not correct.
STOCK pertains to goods only (goods for sale) , both in terms of quantity as well as its monetary value. Stock is the finished product that is sold by the business. In some cases, stock is also raw materials, if the business also sells those products to its customers. For example, a car dealership's stock includes cars, but also can include tires, engine parts or other car accessories.
INVENTORY is the sum of stock and assets that include plant and machinery etc. In other words, anything that goes into producing the items sold by your business is part of its inventory.
