central,state and semi-governments and autonomous govt
authorities such as municipalities,city corporations,state
electricity boards,etc and development financial
institutions such as IDBI,IFCI,NABARD,etc.Since the issuer
of these classes of securities are govt,they all are
considered to be quite safe and liquid for investment;hence
the term "gilt -edged securities".
