What is the difference between nematocyst and spicules?
Answer / Surya Kumar Raushan
Nematocysts are specialized stinging cells found in cnidarians (jellyfish, corals, sea anemones, etc.). They contain a coiled thread that can be ejected to immobilize prey or deter predators. Spicules, on the other hand, are calcium carbonate structures present in some cnidarians and other invertebrates such as sponges and brittle stars. Spicules provide support and protection for these animals.
