There are two main categories of Ethernet: Fast Ethernet (100BASE-T) and Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T). Within these categories, there are several variations such as 10BASE-T (original Ethernet), 100BASE-TX, 100BASE-T4, 1000BASE-SX, 1000BASE-LX, etc.
