Explain steps involved in transcription?..

Answer / Gauri Shankar Tiwari

Transcription is the process of creating an mRNA copy (messenger RNA) from a DNA template. Here are the main steps involved:

1. Initiation:
- The enzyme RNA polymerase binds to the promoter region of the gene and forms an initiation complex.
- The enzyme unwinds the double-stranded DNA around the start site, creating a single-stranded template for mRNA synthesis.

2. Elongation:
- RNA nucleotides are added sequentially to the 3' end of the growing mRNA strand according to the base pairing rules (A pairs with U or T, C pairs with G).
- This process continues until a termination signal is reached on the DNA template.

3. Termination:
- RNA polymerase encounters a terminator sequence on the DNA template, which triggers the release of the newly synthesized mRNA molecule.

The weight of the fruit of one variety of squashes is determined by three pairs of genes: AABBCC produces 6 lb squashes and aabbcc produces 3 lb squashes. Each dominant allele adds 1/2 lb tothe base weight (3 lb). If a pure breeding line that produced 6 lb squashes was crossed with a pure breeding line that produced 3 lb squashes, what would be the phenotypic ratio of the F1 and the F2?
