How many types of twins can be there? Explain each.
Answer / Paritosh
There are three main types of twins: Monozygotic (identical) twins, Dizygotic (fraternal) twins, and Heteropaternal (superfecundation) twins. Monozygotic twins develop from a single fertilized egg that splits into two separate embryos early in pregnancy. They share the same genetic material and are genetically identical. Dizygotic twins develop from two separate fertilized eggs released around the same time during ovulation. They share some, but not all, of their genetic material. Heteropaternal twins occur when two eggs are fertilized by different fathers. This can happen if a woman is accidentally inseminated twice or if she becomes pregnant from two different partners in quick succession.
