How do the rough endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi apparatus act in the production and releasing of proteins?
Answer / Shashank Nigam
The rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) is a network of membranes where proteins are synthesized via ribosomes attached to its surface. Newly synthesized proteins fold and assemble into their functional forms within the RER lumen. The Golgi apparatus then modifies, sorts, and packages these proteins for transport to their respective destinations, such as the plasma membrane or lysosomes. Finally, vesicles bud off from the Golgi apparatus, carrying the proteins to their final locations.
