at the time of independence it was just 14.
in 1967 Sindhi was included
In 1992 Konkani, manipuri and Nepali were added to that list raising no. to 18
in 2004 four more languages Bodo,maithali,dogri,Santhali were included.Now the languages under the 8th schedule is 22
