After fertilization the ovary also begins to grow and
gradually it matures into the fruit. So we can call the
fruit as a mature or ripened ovary. A fruit consists of two
portions the pericarp developed from the wall of ovary and
seeds developed from the ovules. In some e.g. orange,
banana, grapes, apples ovary grow into fruit without
fertilization. These are seedless and are known as
parthenocarpic fruits

Function of fruits :-
(1)Fruit gives protection of the seed and also to the embryo
(2)Helps in dispersal of the seed.
