Give an account on bacitracin resistant Strep agalactiae?..

Answer / Balwant Kumar Singh

Bacitracin-resistant Streptococcus agalactiae (group B streptococcus, GBS) is a clinically important pathogen that can cause severe infections in newborns and pregnant women. Resistance to bacitracin is often conferred by the presence of the bacitracin resistance gene, bcaA, which encodes an ABC transporter that exports bacitracin from the cell. The bcaA gene can be transferred horizontally between GBS strains, making it a significant public health concern.
