The system opens into exterior through a button shaped hard
calcareous plate the madreporite.
surface of madreporite is traversed by many radiating
furrows covered by the flagellated epithelium of body surface.
bottom of each furrow ends in pores each pore leading into
porecanal which transverses downwards through madreporite.
madreporite is perforated by 250 pores and canals looking
like a sieve.
porecanals join with collecting canals which open into small
spaces called ampulla placed beneath the madreporite.
