Answer / srikanth
the accessed data will sit in the buffer. If someone is
trying to acces the same data, that will be rtrieved fastly
from the buffer. If the buffer is full and some one is
retrieving the data which is not there in the buffer then
that data will be placed in the buffer and the oldest data
in the buffer will be swapped for this. More number of
swaps means more DB hits. If there are more Swaps we can
increase the buffer size

Answer / sreekanth
SWAP can be described as a resultant of memory insufficiency
in the SAP buffers/ shortage of no. of directories. existing
objects in buffer are thrown out to accumulate new objects.
This can be monitored in st02
I am not sure 4r threshold but i think it is 1000/day ...
if the swaps are more we need to increase the buffer
size/directory entries ...its not a 1 time activity.

Answer / sudhir bonthu
Swaps occur due to frequent change in programs/ Max Number
of Directories reached / max size in a directory reached/
Introduction of new module. As DB buffer uses LRU algorithm,
if any of the above criteria matched, Buffer flushes out
least recently used block in order to accomadate new one.
Max Swap number depends up on database buffer size and
Ihave not heard about a threshold value / caliculation.
