If you find a long running Bkg Jobs running first thing is
to goto Tcode "SMX" and if you feel it is taking long time
one can cancel jobs to overcome this issue and can schedule
at other time.

Also, if this is a regular running job, one must first go
through the history of its past run to assess how much time
it normally takes to run and whether the running
pattern/time changes on specific days (weekly/monthly
version of it). Then checking out its current run in SMX
will help.
