Ad-hoc Testing:It's a type of testing in which one will perform testing on the application in his own style after understanding the requirements very clearly.
Adhoc testing comes in different manner.
1)Testing without a formal test plan or outside of a test plan. With some projects this type of testing is carried out as an adjunct to formal testing. It carried out by a skilled tester, it can often find problems that are not caught in regular testing. Sometimes, if testing occurs very late in the development cycle, this will be the only kind of testing that can be performed. Sometimes ad hoc testing is referred to as exploratory testing.
2)Tester will do it after completion of the all the test cases executed and when they are going to realese the build.
3)The end user will do this type of test to know whether the application is working or not.

It's a random testing It maens testing a application
without proper test plan.It's carried out at the end of the
project when all the test cases are executed.To check the
application randomly.

Testers used to conduct this Adhoc testing only in the
optimal conditions. i.e its a kind of testing conducting
without having any plans in the critical and in complex
times like
when the tester is not having time to conduct Complete
testing life cycyle process then he will conduct this adhoc
testing.

tessting without following any test plan.

Hi harish n Satish...thanx for the response... Already told Functionality testing and user interface type testing to interviewer but he was expecting something else. And also explained test cases....Is it data driven testing for user id and password combinations? If i am not wrong....?
