SOX refers to Sarbanes-Oxley Act, a United States federal law enacted in 2002. It's designed to protect investors by improving the accuracy and reliability of corporate disclosures. The act establishes new or enhanced standards for all U.S. public company boards, management, and public accounting firms as well as auditor independence rules aimed at preventing accounting fraud and corporate corruption.
