a trader sold an article for Rs 714/-after allowing
discount of 15%.If not allowed discount he would have make

Cost price will be 700/-
as sale price after discount of 15% is 714/- ,it means sale
price without discount of 15% is 840/- ( 714*100/85) . Now
if not allowed discount he would have made 20% profit , so
cost price will be 700/- ( 840*100/120

Trader has sold the article with an profit of 5% by saying
that the he had given a discount of 15%.

Here the trader sells the article at5% profit(20%-15%),then
this mean that 5% is included in Rs 714/-
then apply Rate/100+Rate (714*5/105)=34Rs is profit then
the cost is 680

Article sold for RS 714 after allowing 15% discount.
Then the actual cost of the article was 840 (714*100/85)with out any discount.
Hence now his profit is rs 42.
If he would have not allowed his 15% discount then he might have sold it for rs 840 and his profit would have been 20% and the amount will be rs 168.
