There is no relation betwween Accounting Application and
operating System.
Accountins Software ( or any other software /application)are
designed as per platform dependent ( i.e They will work on
only Specified Operating Systems), where Cross Platform
Applications can run on various operating Systems.
As far as .exe is concerned you can run .exe programs or
even use Tally in Linux with the third party tools for linux
( eg. wine and crossover and lots more)
--- you can have accounting software on linux, there are
lots of accounting applications available for linux.

Tally was created keeping in my Windows users only.
As pointed out in the replies, by using a Wine and the
command line Tally can be installed in Linux.
availability of other accounting software in opensource
is not the direct answer to this question.
otherwise all replies are helpful.
