civils is a national level exam to recruit the posts for IAS, IPS, IFS etc...it is conducted by the central government. But groups is a state level exam conducted by every state to recriut the posts in that individual state. Groups is classified into group1, group2, group4..... there are different exams for the different group exams. Through Group1 the posts like joint collector, DSP etc are filled. through group2 the posts like MRO, and other mandal level jobs are given.

the group exam are the state level examination conducted by
the state public commission to select candidates for the
administration jobs at the state level where as the civil
services exams are conducted by the upsc for the selection
of IAS officers,
if you want to prepare for the civil services exam then the
list of the subject which you can choose are available at
the website www.upsc.gov.in
you can make your selection from there ,also you should be
above 21 years of age and below 30 to be eligible for the
exam and also you should be an graduate passed out or in the
final year of your graduation

Hi friends, Good news for those candidates belonging to reserved category who fared reasonbly well but could not qualify for group -1 prelims. Petition is filed in the High Court on 07.07.08 challenging the prelims results for not following reservstion system as followed by UPSC and other State PSCs. Hi, I have submitted group 1 chalan on 18-08-2009 and paid the fee in SBI on the same day. On 19-08-2009, after entering refernce no, journal no, date of birth, date of payment and uploading the photo with signature, when I click "upload" button, I get the error saying that the journal no is wrong. But i have verified it with SBI again. The number is correct. Can anyone please tell me what has to be done. Kindly help me.
