It is may be due to that, only yahoo is blocked from the
internet option...

One of the reason for this might be a filter which is being
used to avoid the smtp or the pop3 protocol in the internet
explorer properties.....

Probing needs to be done on this issue..however, here goes..
1. Yahoo Website might be down for maintainance.
2. Most companies try to save on Internet Bandwidth and
block the usage of Popular websites like Yahoo, Orkut which
are not related to work (Unless working for yahoo :-) ).
