The time needed to complete the trip is 6 hours and 20 minutes (6 + (1/4 + 1 3/8 + 2 1/3) = 6 + (1/4 + 7/8 + 2/3) = 6 + (9/12 + 7/12 + 2/3) = 6 + (18/12 + 6/12) = 6 + 24/12 = 6 + 2 = 8 hours and 20 minutes. To be certain that at least two blue socks have been chosen, a minimum of 9 socks must be taken from the drawer.
