Let's denote the distance between the person's meeting point and the station as D, the speed of the train as T, and the time at which the person usually meets the train as t (in hours). On a regular day, the train travels from the station to the meeting point in t hours. When the person is late by 25 minutes, he meets the train 5 km before the station, which means that the train travels for (t + 25/60) hours from the station to this point. The total distance covered by the train during this time is (D + 5). Solving for D gives us:
T * t = D + 5 - T * (t + 25/60)
60Tt = 60(D + 5) - T(t + 25)
T(60t - t - 25) = 60D + 300
The speed of the train is T = (60D + 300) / (60t - t - 25).
