in smoke test we test the bsic functionalities of the module or software to assure the module is testable.
In gmail you need to test the basic functionality like:
1) you are able to register or sign up.
Test the sign up button is working fine
2) test the Login button is working fine.
as login and sign up are basic functionalities to carry on further testing we test them in smoke testing.
