the terminology is different but both are same. In India we call it as TDS & in other countries it is withholding tax

TDS is entitled to people of India. Where as WHT will be applicable to foreign transactions.
EG: when we are making payments to Indian vendors TDS will be applicable as per the service.
When we are making payments to foreign vendors WHT will be applicable.

Tds Is the amount which we deduct at the time of payment to
the contractors,professionals and to the employees where as
withholding tax is the amount to be kept in advance for
paying the tax to thwe government for a specified payments
only e.g on total wages by the employer
