Dependencies establish relationship between characterstics
and values of different characteristics. It is required to
get the pricing to the sales order through
Procedure(dependency), to get the bom component selected for
the material with quantity and to have the routing time for
each component.
There are 5-types of dependencies...
a.Precondition ...to hide characteristics and its values
b.Selection condition....to select a charactstics or values
c.Procedure..to Infer value for a characteristics
d.Action...to infer value for a characteristics but obsolete.
e.Constraint...to have a consistency value flow to
configuration , it has to attach to configuration through
dependency net....

Dependencies in variant configuration allows us to create
relations & restrictions between different characteristics
and characteristic values.
Dependencies are of 4 types:
• Pre-condition: which hides the chracterstic and
chractervalues that is not allowed to ensure that
configuration is consistent.
• Selection condition: is used to ensure all the selections
are relavent to a variant is specified. They determine when
it is mandatory to assign a value for a characterstics.
• Action condition: is used to infer values for
chracterstics.values that are set by an action can not be
overwritten.
• Procedure:it is just like action condition but the
difference is actions can be overwritten.

Sundhanshu's reply is correct.
Further to this class 200 is assign to BOM then no need to
create dependencies. In Material Master Item category group
is 0001
If class 300 is assigned dependencies are required which
establish releationship between characteristics and value
(may be single or multiple). Dependencies also help to
trigger pricing for VC product.
Main purpose of constraint is to monitor the consistancy of
configuration.You do not use $self, $root or $parent to
identify object.Constraint are not directly allocated to to
individual object. Constraints are grouped together in
dependencies nets.
