This problem is lacking of important information. It didn't
state that you can exchange the gold piece from the owner
and the worker. It stated only 1 way exchange which from
owner => worker. If someone ask this kind of question in the
interview, he/she must be crazy.

I dont have an answer for this, but i think the answer given
by Md Abdul Aziz is wrong.
The question clearly states that you have to give them a
piece of gold for every single working day, that means if
the worker is working for 2 days you have to give him 1 gold
piece for each day and not 2 gold pieces at the end of the
2nd day, like what stated in the previous answer.

Correct me if iam wrong.

The question clearly states that you are only allowed to
make two breaks.. it does not however that the bar is a
rectangle, and the bar is connected by each piece... The bar
is also not said if the pieces are of equal size. You may
make one break in the bar and disconnect 4 of the pieces
that are now not connected at all... another break and your
3 remain our taken care of

divide the bar into 3 parts of 1 unit,2 unit and 4 unit each

if worker works for
1 day - give 1 unit bar
2 days - give 2 unit bar
3 days - give 1 and 2 bars
4 days - give 4 unit bar
5 days - give 4 and 1 bars
6 days - give 4 and 2 bars
7 days - give all three 1,2 and 4

Answer / sanket

another way of doing this would be, say the 7 bars are
numbered from 1 to 7. You need to break 2nd and 7th piece.
This way you will three single pieces (1st, 2nd and 7th)
and one 4 bar piece (3rd,4th,5th and 6th).
Give a single piece on first three days. On fourth give the
4 bar piece and take 3 singles back. Again pay with singles
for 3 days :)
