Definition of relative response factor :
A measure of the relative response of the instrument
detector to an analyte compared to an internal or external
standard. Relative Response Factors are determined by the
analysis of standards and are used to calculate the
concentrations of analytes in samples. The RRF can be
calculated using the following equation:
RRF = (Ac x Cis)/(Ais x Cc)
where,
RRF = Relative response factor
Ac = Area of the target analyte
Ais = Area of the corresponding internal standard
Cis = Concentration of the corresponding internal standard
Cc = Concentration of the target analyte

respone factor of impurity = responese of impurity/reponse
of active peak pertaining to paricular detection
suppose for detection by uv detector reponse of peak is
equals to area of peak/concentration
impurities (structures having more conjugation ) have more
response factor to active peak
it is necessary to normalise all response of impurities
with respect to active peak at particular detection.
hence response factor used for calculation for detemination
of absolute percentage in druf product or drug substances
RELATIVE RESPONSE FACTOR= /RESPONSE FACTOR

Response factor = response(in response units)
concentration(in mg/mL)
ΕΎ Relative response factor: the ratio of the response
factor of individual related
substance to that of a drug substance to correct for
differences in the response
of related substances and that of the drug substance. It
can be determined using the following equation:
Relative response factor = response factor of individual
related substance
response factor of drug substance
If a linearity curve is constructed for both the related
substance
and the drug substance by plotting the response versus the
concentration,
the relative response factor can also be determined by
Relative response factor = sloperelated substance
slopedrug substance
The relative response factor (RRF) can be used to
correct for differences in relative response between the
related substances and
the drug substance.
