HIGHER LEVEL ITEM :The item category of the higher-level
item determines the item category of related sub-items.
When existing line item is referring to another line item,
the item category of the refrred line item is called is
Higher level item category.e.g. BOM, Free Goods
Example
In a sales order, you want to create a rebate in kind item
that is dependent on a higher-level item. You first create
a higher-level item for 100 units. You then create a sub-
item for a rebate of one unit and assign it to the higher-
level item. When you create and assign the sub-item, the
system automatically proposes an item category for it.
USAGE :This indicator can be used for determination of item
categories, where you can use it to control which other
item categories are to be found in a certain environment
(text items and packing items, for example). It can also
control which items are to be billed in a service quotation
or the corresponding sales order and which are only there
for statistical reasons.
Manual entries allowed for item category in the document
Specifies an item category that you can enter as an
alternative to the automatic proposal from the system.
When you enter an alternative item category during document
processing, the system checks that the alternative is
allowed.

Usage is nothing but how the material is going to be used .
Ex Batch , free goods , etc
Higher level item category is when there are two related
items , one would be a higher level item category so as to
define the item category for a line item.
Ex OR + Norm + Nil + Tan = TANN
Manual entries are used to substitute item category in sales
order processing.
Please correct me if i am wrong on the manual entries front

As in higher level usage is basically for text and are
used in bom; rebates; discounts etc
THE T- CODE FOR USAGE IS VOV7 and for higher level it is vov4
Manual entries are used for materil determination when you
manually enter the materila for substituting one with other
as said by paul or for free goods ( exclusive or inclusive)

Guys I have one issue, Its intercompany sales process, I am doing two partial deliveries for that order, for billing the first billing, I am getting correct one intercompany invoice IV and F2 but for another delivery I am getting two IV and 1 f2, Anyone have any idea?

I configure pricing procedure and it works in the regular sales order are 1100/20/20 correctly and shows the correct calculation but in the third party sales order, I use the same pricing procedure in the sales area 1100/50/20 and the system shows the net value but it does not calculate total price and total price is zero. So I want to know that sales area and item category has relation with pricing procedure or not? What should we check?
