Question { Genco, 4262 }

In transformers Which type of connection is preferred for
harmonics to be minimum.
primary : secondary
star without neutral:open delta
star with neutral :open delta
star without neutral: delta
star with neutral : delta
explain why

Answer

ANS is star with neutral and delta.For harmonics effect to
be minimum we must provide a closed path for harmonics in
phases so that they circulate only in phases and does not
enter into line.Hence harmonic effect is less in delta
connection than in star connection.In star star connection
ti provide closed for harmonics neutral is grounded

Question { 9939 }

DOES A MAGNETIC CIRCUIT CONSUMES ENERGY? IF YES, WHY?

Answer

Inductor does not consume energy but it stores energy in
form of magnetic field.But magnetic circuit consumes energy.
EX:TRANSFORMER.The magnetising current component and no
load loss component which are necessary for operation of
transformer causes some power loss given by (current)*
(voltage)*p.f

Question { 4799 }

Why the CT Secondary is rated as 5A generally?

Answer

As the function of C.T is to step down current and measure
it as all small meters can measure upto 5A it is rated at 5A

Question { NTPC, 3547 }

Even when a particular generator in a generating station is
under maintenance we are still able to maintain the same
power output. How is this possible? Does the tie line
between 2 generating stations have a role to play in it?

Answer

It must be noted that installed capacity of a power plant
is always designed to be greater than the load demand.Hence
if any repair or maintaince remaining all are in operation.
If no reserve capacity of plant then tie line has a role to
play.Tie line is line connecting two generating station
buses.Hence required power in one plant is obtained from
reseve capacity of other plant.

Question { DEWA, 9684 }

what is second harmonic, how is effect transformer ?.

Answer

It has frequency 2 times that of fundamental.Second
harmonics does not effect transformer as the supply is
symmetrical.If supply is symmetrical even harmonics are
automatically eliminated.

Question { 4042 }

Can the field winding in synchronous machines be placed on
stator?What is the limitation of such arrangement?

Answer

The other disadvantages are for large rating of machine
lage amount of winding is required hence if armature is
rotating large mechanical input is required to drive prime
mover and there may be large frictional losses mechanical
losses and machine must be capable of withstanding large
amount of centrifugal forces.

Question { 8489 }

Are generator action and motor action relates to a
particular machine only?

Answer

the above said answer is correct and brief explanation is:
IN motor generating action takes place and the generated
emf is what we call as bacf emf which is opposite to given
supply.Even though it is opposite it is advantageous as it
makes motor self governing that is if load increases speed
decreases back emf decreases and load increases to satisfy
load demand same way it decreases load current if load
decreases.

In generator motoring action takes place and torque
produced is called electromagnetic torque which is in
opposite direction to rotation of prime mover.But we rotate
prime mover with speed greater than electromagnetic torque
hence motoring action takes place predominantly.

Question { 6410 }

what is Real power and Reactive power ? what is difference
between them ?

Answer

REAL POWER is the useful power and reactive power is power
required to get useful power.
EX:-if u eat 10 biscuits u will not get energy equivalent
to 10 biscuits
YOU will get energy 0f 7 biscuits only
remaining 3 biscuits energy used for chewing,digesting
(internal process).
Here real power due to 7 biscuits and reactive power due to
3 biscits.
