Let son's present age is X years.
Hence, father's present age is (3X + 3) years.
After 3 years, son's age will be (X + 3) years.
and father's age will be (3X + 6) years.
But given that after 3 years father's age will be ten years
more than twice the son's age.
(3X + 6) = 2 * (X + 3) + 10
3X + 6 = 2X + 16
X = 10
Therefore, father's present age is 33 years.

No!!!! All the answres are wrong! Let me elaborate it
mathematically.
suppose fathers todays age: x years
Sons todays age : y years
by first relation : x= 3y+3...............(1)
by second relation : x+3= (y+3)*2+10
x+3= 2y+6+10=2y+16
x+3=2y+16
x=2y+13..............(2)
from (1) & (2)
y-10= 0
so, y=10 years.
so, sons age is 10 years
and fathers age is 33 years, which
satisfies both given condition

LET THE SON'S PRESENT AGE BE x YEARS
FATHER'S PRESENT AGE IS (3x+3) YEARS
AFTER 3 YEARS, SON'S AGE WILL BE (x+3) YEARS
AND FATHER'S AGE WILL BE (3x+6) YEARS
GIVEN: AFTER 3 YEARS FATHER'S AGE WILL 10 YEARS MORE THAN
TWICE THE SON'S AGE.
(3x+6)=2(x+3)+10
3x+6=2x+16
x=10
THEREFORE,FATHER'S PRESENT AGE = 33 YEARS
AND, SON'S PRESENT AGE = 10 YEARS

father's age=3+3*son's age
after 3 years
father's age=10+2*son's age
if son is 10 now his father is 3+3*10=33 and after 3 years his father will be 36 and his son will be 13 therefore 36=10+2*13

Oh my gosh. It's really not that hard. Let me spell it out
for you...
Let's assume the father's current age is "f" and the son's
current age is "s".
f=3s+3 [Father's age is 3 times the Son's age
and 3 more years]
3+f=3+2s+10 [In 3 years, father's age will be twice
the son's age plus 10 more years]
3+(3s+3)=2s+13 [The Transitive Property of Equality
allows us to subsitute "3s+3" for "f"]
s=7 [By subtracting 6 and 2s from each
side, you are left with "s=7"]
therefore, f=24. [By plugging in "7" for "s" in our
original equation, we see that f=24.]
I don't understand why everyone is getting these ridiculous
answers, so I explained my answer in as much detail as I
deemed necessary. It's really not that hard guys.

Let the father's present age be X years.
Let the son's present age be Y years.
Presently,
X = 3Y(according 2 the first part of the question)
---------(1)
After 3 years,
Father's age = X+3
Son's age = Y+3
given, X+3 = 10+2*(Y+3)----------------(2)
Thus, X - 2Y = 13(from 2)
X - 3Y = 0(from 1)
By solving, Y = 13
SO X = 39(present father's age)

The son of a rich bullion merchant left home on the death of his father. All he had with him was a gold chain that consisted of 138 links. He rented a place in the city center with a shop at the lower level and an apartment at the upper level. He was required to pay every week one link of the gold chain as rent for the place. The landlady told him that she wanted one link of the gold chain at the end of one week, two gold links at the end of two weeks, three gold links at the end of three weeks and so on. The son realized that he had to cut the links of the gold chain to pay the weekly rent. If the son wished to rent the place for 138 weeks, what would be the minimum number of links he would need to cut?
