A man went into a fast food restaurant and ate a meal
costing Rs. 105, giving the accountant a Rs. 500 note. He
kept the change, came back a few minutes later and had some
food packed for his girl friend. He gave the accountant a
Rs. 100 note and received Rs. 20 in change. Later the bank
told the accountant that both the Rs. 500 and the Rs. 100
notes were counterfeit.
How much money did the restaurant lose? Ignore the profit of
the food restaurant.

man gave him 500+100 counterfeit note so loss is 600

so total loss is 125+600=725

Answer / satyajit
Rs 1200
Loss in serving food for free : 105
Loss in paying the balence : 395
Loss in preparing food for Girl Friend : 80
Loss in paying the balence : 20
Total Loss : Rs 600
Till here Johny is right but the restaurant also has the
fake currency which they cannot use and has to be considered
as a loss. So the total loss would be
600+ 600 of the counterfeit money= 1200

Answer / sai vignesh
500 & 100 bills r fake hence monetary loss = 600
plus
CHANGES= 395+20
plus the food was given free of cost hence those are losses too
FOOD=105+80
HENCE TOTAL LOSS=(500+100)+(395+105)+(80+20)
=1200

Answer / stephen
ans 600
since both 500 and 100 are counterfeit.
and then accountant gave 395 and 20 change as orignal money
moreover, the amount of food he took is also a loss of the
restaurant..
inference here is he had food free of cost..
further he received the change for the fake currency..
the loss 500+100=1200
i.e 395+105+80+20=100

Answer / amrutha
its 500Rs
Meals Cost = 105
Change given to customer = 395
In 395 one is hundred rupee note which ic counterfeit.
so loss == 105 +295 =400
girl friend food = 80
change = 20
total Loss= 400 + 80 +20 =500

Let's say restaurant starts with 1000
then it gives guy 395 so then
restaurant has 605 and also has a bad 500 bill
next it give guy 80 back in change
restaurant has 525 and has a bad total of 600
Now, the real question is is the loss 1000-525=475 OR
Are we saying that the restaurants profits would have been
1000+105+20=1125 and so the loss would be 1125-525 = 600
ie. I am not sure what they mean by ignoring the profits(ie.
do we use 1000). The answer
is definitely 600 or 475 ;).

when the man went in for the first time his bill was
rs.105.so the restaurant loses rs.105----1.
when he went again he gav rs.100 n the bill was rs.80...
but he received rs.20 back...so in this second case the
restaurant loses rs.100-----2.
but we have been instructed to ignore the profit...
so from 1. and 2. we can say that the restaurant loses
rs.205 on whole...
