As a tester you should have already prepare a test case document(Should be reviewed by Business Analyst) for the application. By following all the test cases one by one we have to perform the steps in the application thru UI and note down the results. Which turns out to be a Test case execution log which have results.

That's the reason test cases should be written from lay man understanding point of view. Any one can execute the test cases and can grab the results.
