tds can not be deducted while making payment for purchases,
tds will be deducted only on job works, for example: while
making payment to contractors, sub contractors, payments
for proffesional and technical services, while paying
interest and rents, commisions, salaries etc,

the material portion....whatever the vat rate may be.

If Invoice clearly says that bill amount is for the purpose
of materials no TDS will be deducted.

As far as I know,VAT is charged on purchase of material but
if it includes labour job(although VAT is charged in
Invoice)TDS will be deducted

Basic to know the nature of service rendered against the
invoice , If break up of material and labour is shown in
the invoice than TDS is applicable only on labour , if
breakup is not shown TDS to be deducted on bill value.

VAT is charged by Vendor as the material involved for
finishing required service involves material which he has
purchased by paying VAT

My company liable to paid Service tax for GTA (Goods Transport Agency) in Jan,Feb & March month. our Transport made on 15.02.09 and Transport bill accounted on 02.03.09. on 25.02.09 Service tax reduced 12.36% to 10.30%. So my quastion is what rate should i caluculate to paid the tax. while transport date (12.36%) or Bill accounted date (10.30%) pl tell me.
