Public Interest Act origin is that, before 1980's only the aggrieved parties could only approach the court. The Apex court in order to reach out of people, devised an innovative way were in a person or a society/group can approach the apex court for seeking legal remedies to secure the public interest at large.
Justice P.N.Bhagwati and Justice V.R.Krishna Iyer were among the first judges to admit public interest litigation cases in the court.
