According to latest census (2001):
Hindi speaking: 41%
Bengali speaking: 8.1%
Telegu speaking: 7.1%
Marathi speaking: 6.9%
Tamil speaking: 5.9%
Urdu speaking: 5%
This is what I got from Govt. website updated as of 2007
hindi-42.09%
bengali-7.81%
telugu - 7.63%
kannada - 7.21% (since many people migrated to bangalore,
seems they learnt kannada)
tamil - 6.32%
