According to recorded history of Great Puranic book Mahabharata, Tamralipti was a port city with in the boundary of Great Mighty Kingdom Kalinga, and whose rulers was Tamradhwaja and Mayurdhwaja, with whom mighty Pandavas fought but lost with Tamradhwaja with whom port city is named as Tamralipti. And according to The Indian Encyclopaedia also it is in limit of Kalingan Empire, and world knows Kalingan Empire was also having both Medinapur districts and was touching river ganges end. But during partition of bengal for creation of Odisha and bihar, corrupt, cunning and evil bengali law makers and british government in bengal province doesn't want to loose medinapur and tampralipta, because of richness and minerals in medinapur and ample space available , so bengalis take this as an advantage and grasp this from local medinapuri population and thus filled by their dozens of childs of bengali population(like rats and mice produce babies) under as british employee and schemes they got, by making friends with british and making loyal to british and thus by doing disloyal and treacherous act towards the peity country man but other linguistic neighbours. And aslo during partition of India many bangladeshis bengalis migrated towards india and thus on humanitarian grounds still medinapur got permanently attached to West bengal and pouring of banglas and dozens of rat population and uncontrolled bangla birth is still going on. So historical and ethinic point of view tamralipta is a part of Kalinga region, not bengal(to justify it before partition of andhra you can call hyderabad in telangana as hyderabad is ethnically in telengana, similarly north andhra region is also a Kalingan by ethinically ). But it is in West bengal state, now.
