Explain Various fields in Ethernet frame format

Explain Various fields in Ethernet frame format..

Answer / Monika Rani

The Ethernet frame consists of several fields. Here is a brief explanation of each field:
1. Preamble (7 Bytes): It is used for synchronization between sender and receiver.
2. Start Frame Delimiter (2 Bytes): Indicates the beginning of a new frame.
3. Destination MAC Address (6 Bytes): The intended recipient's MAC address.
4. Source MAC Address (6 Bytes): The sender's MAC address.
5. EtherType (2 Bytes): It identifies the protocol encapsulated in the data field (e.g., IP, ARP, etc.).
6. Data: This is the payload of the frame that carries the actual information.
7. Pad: Optional padding added to ensure that the length of the data field is a multiple of 4 bytes.
8. CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check): It is used for error detection at the receiving end.
