It is calculated by a formula
DPS = Dividend paid to shareholders /No of shares

DPS(Dividend Per Share) The amount of dividend that a stockholder will receive for each share of stock held. It can be calculated by taking the total amount of dividends paid and dividing it by the total shares outstanding.
If a company issues a $1 million dividend and has 10 million shares, the dividend per share is 10 cents ($1 million divided by 10 million shares).

Dividend per share is paid on a certain percentage on the face value of a share
example:
face value = 10
% given as dividend = 100%
No of shares = 100
Total dividend = 10*100%=(10*100)=1000
DPS =1000/100=10
