Peter(X) is twice(2) as old as Paul(Z) was when Peter(Y) was
as old as Paul(Y) is now => X=2Z
=>X-u=Y & Y-u=Z
i.e 2Z-u=Y u=Y-Z........(2)
u=2Z-y.....(1)
equating 1 & 2
2Z-Y=Y-Z
3Z=2Y
Z=2Y/3..........(3)
given
sum of their ages is 42
i.e
X+Y=42
2Z+Y=42
substituting from (3)
2*(2Y/3)+Y=42
7Y/3=42
Y=42*3/7
Y=18
so X=24
=> peter's age is 24

WILL ALWAYS BE SAME WEN 'N' YEARS AGO OR HENCE..
SO EQUATION WILL BE
X = {42-X-(2X-42)}
PETER PAUL AGE WHEN peter age = paul age

by solving this equation you will get X=24(peter age)

p+pa=42(given)--------(Eq.1)
when peter is as old as paul that is, before (p-pa) years peter's age will be:p-(p-pa)
at that time paul's age will be y-(p-pa)
it is given that(in the prblm) peter's age was twice this
there fore
p=2[p-(p-pa)]-------(Eq 2]
solving both equations 1 and 2 we get
