CDMA and GSM are Radio technologies and mobile Phone is
just an Antenna to recieve these Radio Signals. Since both
the technologies work on different frequency range and has
different modulation shemes therfore the mobile phones for
both are different.

Apart from this 3G tehchnology which is combination of both
GSM and CDMA (WCDMA) is compatible with both GSM and CDMA.
So a 3G mobile can serve for both GSM and CDMA radio
signals.

SIM (Subcriber Idendity Module) is consists of Credential
for network authorization. Since Both GSM and CDMA
technologies has different Authorization functions and
parameters hence both SIMs are different.

Note: In CDMA technology SIM is often called as RUIM
(Removable User Idendity Module)

CDMA uses Different Frequencies than GSM. CDMA also does
not require a SIM card.

Now some companies do provide SIM cards for CDMA
connections also, such as Reliance communications and TATA
Indicomm in India.

CDMA can hold more calls per channel on their towers, while
GSM drops alot of calls. That is why people are always
complaining about T-Mobile and At&t dropped calls. GSM is
used internationally while CDMA is mostly used in the
domestic United States.

GSM:global syetm for mobile communication & CDMA means
code division multiple access.In GSM mobiles we can use sim
card of any compony while we cant do it in CDMA

GSM is a form of multiplexing, which divides the available bandwidth among the different channels. Most of the times the multiplexing used is either TDM (Time division multiplexing) or FDM (Frquency division multiplexing). On the other hand CDMA is a type of multiple access sceheme( which means allotting the given bandwidth to multiple users) and makes use of spread spectrum technique which is essentially increasing the size of spectrum.

GSM uses 900,1800&1900 band Systems.in india we are using
900 and 1800 band Systems but in CDMA we are using only 900
band system.
in GSM 900 Band System
uplink is varied form 890 MHz to 915 MHz
Downlink is Varied from 935 MHz to 960 MHz
but in CDMA 900 Band System
uplink is varied form 824 MHz to 849 MHz
Downlink is Varied from 869 MHz to 894 MHz

and Radiation distance of CDMA is more high than GSM.

more money required for establish a CDMA tower than GSM

CDMA tower should generate a random code for every User,and
CDMA mobile also generate one random code ,if two random
codes are same than Synchronization is ha pend between BTS
&Mobile station

should identify the MS by ISDN(International subscriber
