What are the difference between IPv4 & IPv6?? Can anyone
explain more details about it..!!

Hi... there is lots of difference in IPv4 & IPv6...let me
try to explain...
some of them are..
a. IPv4 is a 32 bit addressing scheme in a TCP/IP network
where as IPv6 is a 128 bits address.
b. Address available in IPv4 is near about 4.3 billion
(including private, public & reserve) where as in IPv6 its
2^128.... (Calculate it... i don't hv guts....heheheh)
c. Complicated header in IPv4 where as IPv6 has most
simplied header (Extension field in header is optional in
IPv6 & Also some one fields are removed).
d. In Ipv4, IPSec & AH (Authentication Header)is add ons
(Not present default), where as in IPv6 IPSec & AH is
present default.
e. IN IPv4, there in no inbuilt QoS, but in IPv6, its inbuilt.
f. Stateless auto configuration is not supported by IPv4,
where as IPv6 support it. (New fatured introduced in IPv6).
g. In IPv4 network, packet fragmentation is done by router
or layer 3 device... where as in IPv6 network, packet
fragmentation is done by source node. so it reduce the
router overhead.
h. In IPv4, ip addressing styles are unicast, multicast &
broadcast, where as in IPv6 instaed of braodcast, its
introduce a new style its known as ANYCAST. (Same address
for group of devices, but packet wud be sent to nearest
device). So in IPv6 we can hv n number of server of the same
address.
i. In IPv4, ARP is used to track IP to MAC, where as in
IPv6, NDP (Neighbor Discovery protocol) is used for this
purpose.
Hey guys, Watever i know i just wrote it here... may be i m
wrong in some concept, let me know...... coz i m still
reading abt IPv6 & i think i hv to read more abt it...!!!
Coz after all we gonna use it very soon.
