Question { Private, 2155 }

During the main stator winding insulation testing (phase to ground)of 11kv alternator (Lerysomer) i found 0 and resistance with multimeter and found 20 killo ohm while the power cables are connected both end (Generator & VCB). In VCB PT (Potential transformer) are connected.
Please any body explain that method of insulation is correct or not? also describe of PT connections

Answer

Supposing that you have disconnected the neutral of GEN , you will measure the dc resistance of PT as the other end of it is earthed . 20 K ohm will be measured as 0 M ohm by the megger . If you want to test insulation of GEN , you have to isolate the winding from everything .

Question { 2765 }

I have 10 amp MCB for my air conditioner of 1.5 ton capacity. When I connect the ac direct it is started running but when connected through stabliser the Mcb Get trip and air conditioner couldn't start.please confirm whether Mcb is required to be upgraded to 20 amp. There is no fault in ac and the stabliser. Please advice the reason of tripping the mcb when connected through the stabliser.

Answer

The initial in-rush current is about 3-4 times the normal current when there is stabilizer as it consists of a transformer . If you keep the switch of the MCB pressed with your finger for a short time while switching on the AC ,the MCB may not trip. You can go in for a 30A MCB

Question { Adhunik, 3147 }

how starting current in motor is reduced in case of motor in star connection.

Answer

The motors are usually designed to run in delta connection i.e. each of the three windings to take line voltage . When you start in star connection , each winding is subjected to phase voltage , Hence the starting current will be less .

Question { Shree Lingaa Polymer, 2044 }

Hi,

I'm running plastic reprocessing company where all motors are running only in delta. Due to that when I use start my 30 hp motor my transformer gets fuse. Where it happens two times a day. I gt a suggestion from a person about Automatic Power Factor Controller APFC. Is it useful for my problem??? Or is der any other way for solving this problem?? Upgrading the transformer is difficult. Pls give Me ur suggestion. Waiting for ur reply.
