What is the difference between a role and profile in salesforce?

What is the difference between a role and profile in salesforce?..

Answer / Mahendra Singh Negi

In Salesforce, Profiles define what users can do (permissions, page layouts, record types, etc.), while Roles are not native to Salesforce. However, the concept of roles is used when sharing records or setting up permission sets where roles are assigned to multiple profiles and provide a way to manage permissions consistently across them.
