By pulling the piston of the filler up, the air is sucked
out and the ink on account of the atmospheric pressure on
its surface rushes into fill up the space.

When the piston of a fountain pen is plucked up the volume increases while pressure decreases hence the atmospheric pressure in side becomes higher than pressure inside the pen.Atmspheric weight forces the ink inside the fountain pen
