Mr. Jaweri decided to walk down the escalator on the station. He found that if he walks down 26 steps, he requires 30 seconds to reach the bottom. However, if he steps down 34 stairs he would only require 18 seconds to get to the bottom. If the time is measured from the moment the top step begins to descend to the time he steps off the last step at the bottom, find out the height of the stair way in steps?

Mr. Jaweri decided to walk down the escalator on the station. He found that if he walks down 26 step..

Answer / Parasar Mahalik

Let's assume that Mr. Jaweri takes a constant time t to step down one step (ignoring any acceleration or deceleration effects). When he steps down 26 stairs, it takes him 30 seconds, so the total distance covered is 26 * t = 30 seconds * some constant speed s. Similarly, when he steps down 34 stairs, it takes him 18 seconds, so the total distance covered is 34 * t = 18 seconds * some constant speed s. Since both distances are equal, we can set up an equation: (26 * t) = (18 * t) * 3/2 => 26 = 27t/2. Solving this gives us t = 0.93 seconds per step. To find the height of the stairway, multiply the number of steps by the time taken per step: 26 + 34 = 60 steps * 0.93 seconds/step = 55.8 seconds. However, since it is a stairway, it doesn't make sense to have a fraction of a second for each step. We can round this up to the nearest whole number: 56 steps.
