By using Key fields & Alternate search key we can create
system indexes. Where as we can create User defined indexes
using App. Designer. Path is: In menus Tools -> Data
Administration -> create indexes.

Index generally created on Keys and alternate search keys during record build process.
We can create custom index via Application designer as well.
